Fabrizio Romano provided Caught Offside with an exclusive video update on Alejandro Garnacho’s Chelsea story which emerged today.
In a new post for the Daily BriefingRomano confirmed stories about Chelsea’s interest in the Manchester United winger, while also reporting that Napoli were keen.
Although Garnacho has mostly been an important player for Man Utd over the past two seasons, he has also had his critics at Old Trafford, particularly after a slight dip in form this season.
Yet it appears top clubs still highly value the Argentina international, with Romano claiming Napoli manager Antonio Conte called the player to try and convince him to join.
Chelsea are also there for Garnacho, although it seems unlikely that United will let him go easily, with large sums of money likely to be needed, especially, one imagines, if it comes to selling to a Premier League rival.
Alejandro Garnacho transfer update from Fabrizio Romano
“Also keep an eye on the Alejandro Garnacho situation,” Romano said.
There is interest from Napoli, with Antonio Conte calling the player and lobbying to get the Argentine, but it is very expensive and looks difficult for Napoli.
“Also, Chelsea are there – they did an investigation last week, and this week they will have more contacts to understand Garnacho’s situation.
“So Chelsea and Napoli are interested, but Man United are very clear: it has to be a very big offer, otherwise the player will stay at the club in the January transfer window.”
Chelsea already have Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix and Noni Madueke as attacking midfield options, so it is difficult to see Garnacho necessarily starting at Stamford Bridge.
Still, there is no doubt that the 20-year-old has shown glimpses of enormous talent, so this could prove to be a smart investment if the Blues can pull it off.
