An Israeli air strike in the southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza killed the high political leader of Hamas, Salah al-Bardaweel, a Hamas official told the BBC on Sunday.
Residents say that the air strike killed both Bardaweel, a member of the group’s political bureau, and his wife.
Israeli officials had no immediate comments.
The army of Israel Resumed important strikes on Gaza on Tuesday, accusing Hamas, abandoning a ceasefire agreement that started January 19 and ended Almost two months of calm.
Hamas rejected the Israeli accusations and, in turn, accused Israel of having violated the cease-fire agreement which was signed and negotiated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States.
An official of the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas said that 32 Palestinians had been killed in the past 24 hours in various parts of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Hamas said Bardaweel had prayed with his wife when an Israeli missile had hit their tent, according to the Reuters news agency.
The Israeli army launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.
More than 49,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since then, the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas said, and there is a large -scale destruction of houses and infrastructures in the strip.
