Skype is no longer, because Microsoft removes the video call service formerly popular on Monday.

“Skype has been an integral part of modern communications training and supporting countless significant moments, and we are honored to have been part of the trip,” said Jeff Tepper, president of Microsoft of collaborative applications and platforms, in a press release.

Those who do not want to use the Microsoft teams for free can Export their Skype data. Those who do nothing will have their data deleted in January 2026, indicates the Microsoft website.
Skype was launched for the first time in 2003. When Microsoft acquired it in 2011 for $ 8.5 billion, the service had around 150 million monthly users. When Zoom’s popularity jumped during the COVVI-19 pandemic in 2020, this number fell at around 23 million.
The decline was partly because the underlying technology of Skype was not adapted to the era of smartphones.
