Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed the penalty shot while Paris Saint-Germain ended Liverpool’s hopes at the Champions League in Anfield.
Having won 1-0 at night to level the equality of 1-1, PSG held its nerve when they marked the four kicks and Gianluigi Donnarumma did the rest with two superb stops.
It was an absorbent game that fluctuated in both directions. Liverpool started superbly to be taken on the counter by the 21st goal of Ousmane Dembele in 2025.
PSG should have been more advanced at half-time before Liverpool dominates the second period.
The pendulum has again swung in overtime with PSG approaching three times three times.
As it stands, they were pushed to a penalty shootout in which they never dragged. Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Dembele and Désir Doue all scored, just like Mohamed Salah for Liverpool.
The Reds have little time to feel sorry for themselves when their next match arrives on Sunday when they face Newcastle in the EFL Cup final.
Break starts from Liverpool
Liverpool started in a bad mood, tearing throughout PSG, refusing to visitors any space on the ball.
It was a completely different game and an atmosphere, for the Parc des Princes last week when Luis Enrique’s men found themselves firmly on the rear foot for the first time for equality.
The Kop has roared each tackle while Liverpool poured forward and created three chances presentable in the first 10 minutes.
The best fell in Salah after four minutes. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister sculpted the defense of PSG and the Argentinian square for Salah, who seemed to have the simple task to put it in the net only so that his shot knocks the leg of Nuno Mendes and flies over the bar.
Salah then shot closely and and the goal of Captain Virgil Van Dijk was blocked near the line by Mendes.
It seemed a matter of time before there was a goal and it duly arrived after 12 minutes – only at the other end.
The best chance of PSG in the night was always going by a counterattack and they used this tactic with a clinical effect. Dembele led a quick break just inside his own half before sliding to Bradley Barcola on the right. The Barcola cross was passed in front of Alisson by the tense leg of Ibrahima Konate and Dembele was on site to go home.

Konate almost made amends with a shot of 25 yards which brought an intelligent and dive of Donnarumma before PSG almost doubled their advantage.
This time, it was Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who led the break before sliding to Barcola, but his efforts were suffocated by the Alisson who was advancing.
All of a sudden, it was PSG that wore the greater threat and they should have increased their advance at night before half-time.
Dembele, unusually, plush her luck
Dembele took a heavy touch when it is clean through – allowing Alisson to come to suffocate – before the former Barcelona winger saw two thick efforts of thumbs wide, both via deviations.
Slot would have been relieved to bring his players in without more damage and they started the second half of a more assertive mood.
Szoboszlai saw an effort excluded for the offside against Diogo Jota – the piece continuing for a long time after the Portuguese was apparently beyond the last man – and the Hungarian midfielder also saw an instantaneous superbly blocked by Willian Pancho.
Donnarumma looked trembling overnight and after beating in another corner of Mac Allister, he needed Kvaratskhelia to hang Salah’s shot on the line.
The Italian international was beaten after 79 minutes, but the head of Jarell Quansah of the replacement returned from inside the post, although the offside flag increased shortly after.
Kvaratskhelia completed a little scary on the bar with four minutes, but the defeat at this stage would have been hard on one side of Liverpool which dominated the second period.
PSG will be able to take the lead in equality! 😱

Beraldo and Doue come a few centimeters from the restoration of the advance of PSG
PSG returned to overtime while the local team seemed to lack gas.
And the leaders of Ligue 1 could have scored three times on a largely unilateral level for 30 minutes.
Lucas Beraldo led a closely wide corner before, a minute later, the quick feet of Doue allowed him a shot that beat Alisson but not the amount.
The Brazilian international Alisson then distinguished himself with a brilliant safeguard to prevent Dembele shooting, but could do little during the shooting while PSG passed to a meeting with Aston Villa or Club Brugge.
