A “generational” struggle against Anthony Joshua could try Tyson Fury to get out of retirement, believes Frank Warren.
Fury announced that his “retirement” of boxing in January only a few days after being revealed that Wembley had been reserved for the “King Gitan” to fight Joshua in summer.
This is not the first time that Fury claimed to hang up his gloves, having also “retired” in April 2022 following his victory with direct elimination on Dillian Whyte before returning to fight Derek Chisora six months later.
Fury teased a return on Monday when he published an Instagram story of him in the gymnasium alongside coach Sugarhill Steward.
Fury has just struggled consecutive against Oleksandr Usyk, who became an undeniable heavy world champion during the first meeting between the pair.
“He is with his family, benefits from life,” said promoter Warren Sky Sports.
“I didn’t tell him about going back to boxing and I wouldn’t do it. If he decides to support him, if he does not support him, I will support this.
“He was a magnificent boxing servant, a double world champion, he is very well in place, set up for life, does not need to box.
“But the thing with Tyson is that he is a fighter, so you never know what’s going to happen.”
Fury and Joshua have regularly been linked to a fully British truck mega-combat, only for negotiations to decompose several times.
Although both are in the last years of their career, it remains one of the most coveted competitions in world boxing and with the potential to break British records.
Joshua has not fought since his superb direct elimination defeat against Daniel Dubois last September.
“It would try us all, to do so,” said Warren about a fight between Fury and Joshua.
“This is the fight that everyone wants to see, a generational fight.
“I know that AJ wants it, Tyson at some point wanted it and we were close but that did not happen.
“You never know what can happen in boxing.”
