When Marc Webb made “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012, many audiences felt ambivalent. It was only five years that “Spider-Man 3” of Sam Raimi, so it seemed to be a very rapid execution time for restarting the continuity of a well-known superhero. The public did not know in 2012 that only two years would flow between the suite of webb “The Amazing Spider-Man” and Anthony and “Captain America: Civil War” by Joe Russo, who featured another restarted version of Spider-Man. This meant that there were three traditional spider-man theatrical versions in nine years. To put this in perspective, there were only three Indiana Jones films from 1981 to 1989.

This also meant that there were three versions of Aunt May, the aunt who has been suffering for a long time who has trouble paying the bills and does not know that her nephew is Spider-Man. In Raimi’s “Spider-Man” films, Aunt May was played by Rosemary Harris. In “Civil War”, she was played by Marisa Tomei (who credited Robert Downey Jr. for her to land the role). Between them, in the “Amazing Spider-Man” films by Webb, May was played by Sally Field. It was unusual to bring an actor so famous to play such a small role. Aunt May is important for the traditional story of Spider-Man, but she does not lead any of Spider-Man’s theatrical stories, mainly serving as a member of the feet family on the ground that Peter feels that he must protect.

The field could agree. In A 2016 interview with Howard SternField has chosen its role in the films “Amazing Spider-Man”, declaring that Aunt May is not very complex or rich. No one in these films seemed to be three -dimensional. She also admitted that she was not really in superhero films, which implies that such characters cannot really bring much to the table.

In Howard Stern’s interview, Field admitted that she had taken the role of Aunt May largely as a favor to her friend Laura Ziskin (who was producing “The Amazing Spider-Man”). Ziskin, who died in 2011, founded Fogwood films with Field in 1984, and the pair produced “Murphy’s Romance” together. Ziskin also produced the three films “Spider-Man” by Raimi, as well as films like “What Abut Bob?” From Frank Oz? And “to die” by Gus Van Sant. Field, in fact, would not have thought of appearing in “The Amazing Spider-Man” if Ziskin had not been involved.

Field also noted that it was easy to play Aunt May, because the character had so little complexity. Indeed, the whole film was a little thin in his eyes. “It is really difficult to find a three-dimensional character,” she said. “You work as much as you can, but you cannot put 10 pounds of S *** in a bag of five pounds.”
Harsh. At the very least, Field said that she liked to act in front of Andrew Garfield, who played Peter Parker in the film and remained open about the representation of Spider-Man in the future. Garfield was, it seems, a generous stage partner, and Field found that they had responded well. As Field says:
“You must try to do as much logical performance as possible, and Andrew, in these circumstances, is such a charming adorable actor. We found the relationship in which we were, and it was fun.”

Many Spider-Man fans have found a lot to criticize in webb “Amazing Spider-Man” films, some quoting their strange re-caracterization of Peter Parker as a cool child (as well as the needs of filmmakers to explore the functioning of Peter’s dead parents). Field simply felt that the characters in the film were fragile. But she did her job; They do not sleep in one or the other of webb movies.
