Pebble is back, baby. Monday, Google (which has pebble ip via its fitbit purchase) open-open Smartwatch OG Modern software. Although this opens the road so that anyone can make new pebble laptops (or a personalized firmware for old models), a high -level figure has already raised hands: the creator of pebbles Eric Migicovsky.
Google says that the open-source pebbleos includes most of the software source code. The only exceptions are the owner code for the chipset and the Bluetooth software. Matthieu Jeans, Katharine Berry and Liam McLoughlin from Google, wrote that the developers are confronted with “a non -trivial quantity” to find replacements for stripped code parts. Migicovsky says he stimulated the project by asking friends at Google if they would open the software.
The founder of Pebble, who continued to execute Beeper (the Imessage application for Android who sparked a short war with Apple), wrote On his blog, he wants his planned smartwatch to be a modern vision of the original pebble – a spiritual successor who does not try to reinvent the wheel. “No one does a smartwatch with the central set of the features I want,” he wrote. “I really really, really, really, someone else would come and build a pebble replacement. But no one did.
His list of wishes for the product not yet under name includes an electronic paper screen, a long battery life, a “simple and beautiful user experience”, physical buttons and a piratable (such as personalized watch faces ). It was indeed the characteristics of the innovative and charming roller, which broke the Kickstarter records and preceded the Apple, Samsung and Google models of several years.
“The new watch that we build has essentially the same specifications and features as Pebble, although with new funny things,” wrote the founder of Pebble, adding that his team still needs to nail the exact specifications and chronology of the product. “It performs open source pebbles, and it is compatible with all pebble applications and watchfes.”
