The day of Valentine’s Day inside the Théâtre de Madison Square Garden, Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KB, 1 NC) obtained a gift that he worked throughout his life: the world championship. A few weeks before its 26th birthday, Davis won the WBO Lightweight Championship by eliminating the Denys of Denys previously undefeated (19-1, 9 KB) in the fourth round.
When Davis won a vicious left hook in the body in the fourth round, Berinchyk could not beat the ten of the referee. The KO arrived at brand 1:45 of the fourth round. Davis had overthrown Berinchyk earlier with a bodity in the third round.
Keyshawn Davis won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. He made his debut professionally in February 2021 on the Undercard of a Canelo Álvarez fight. Four years later, Davis showed the skills that had a lot of praising him as a future champion when he was part of the amateur ranks.
After the fight, the first row president, Bob Arum, described Keyshawn Davis a young sensational fighter. Arum added: “You saw the future of boxing tonight here in New York.”
Even as an approaches of 6 against 1 entering the fight, Denis Berinchyk was not a tomato box. The 35 -year -old Ukranian is a talented fighter who won the championship by defeating the world champion with two Emmanuel Navarette divisions last year. But Keyshawn Davis overwhelmed Berinchyk. The combination of speed, technique and precision punch of Davis was too much for Berinchyk.
Keyshawn Davis became the first Norfolk boxer in Virginia, winning a world championship from the renowned temple Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker. And Keyshawn is one of the three Davis brothers who are professional boxers.
The oldest of the three, Kelvin, 28, is a south of the Welters weight division. Keon, 23, the youngest of the three brothers, made his professional debut in November and won his second victory in as many fights on Friday on his brother’s Undercard. Standing to a 6 -inch 3 -inch height release, Keon fought with a scome weight of 150 pounds. In an interview with Mark Kriegel of ESPN last year, Keyshawn said he had always told Keon that he had the potential to be the best fighter of the three.
Keyshawn Davis is now one of the four champions of an intriguing light division. Vasiliy Lomachenko holds the IBF, Gervonta “Tank” Davis championship holds the WBA and Shakur Stevenson championship holds the WBC (William Zepeda championship holds an interim version of the WBC light weight championship).
So, what comes then for the new champion? Davis had called Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and Gervonta Davis. Vasily Lomachenko or William Zepeda.
Some consider Cuban Andy Cruz as the skeleton of Keyshawn Davis closet. Cruz beat Davis four times in the amateur ranks, especially in the gold medal match at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games. The amateur and professional boxing are different animals, but beat someone four times beats someone four times. Davis against Cruz could fight for a few years later after Cruz was established in professional ranks.
Davis trains with Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, who also forms Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson, among others. Keyshawn will benefit from expectations that many observers have had for his career. Having all the attributes to become a superstar is one thing; Assembly and realize this potential in the results is another.
An interesting wrinkle on the road of Keyshawn Davis to unify the light division is his relationship with his colleague champion of 135 pounds and teammate Shakur Stevenson. Davis has never entertained a potential fight between him and Shakur Stevenson. Davis told Talksport: “No, I would never fight him. It’s really deeper. His mom dms all the time. I am about to establish his brother today, I know all his family. I even know his sisters. I knew Shakur almost all his life. I know his cousins. I know all his family, so that’s not all about Shakur. It is admirable that even at a young age, Davis recognizes that certain things are more important than boxing.
Anyway to Keyshawn Davis, he will be a force with which you have to count in boxing for the years to come.
