Finding a rental place in India comes with its own set of challenges, especially for young professionals and students. Many owners impose restrictive and often arbitrary rules, such as fire-hungry, prohibitions on visitors or prohibitions for non-vegetarian food. Single tenants, especially unmarried women and couples, are often confronted with discrimination, owners questioning their lifestyle choices.
Brokers, also, often induce tenants, which makes false promises to conclude agreements, only for tenants to discover hidden restrictions later. The absence of clear rental agreements and the rights of enforceable tenants further aggravates the situation, leaving numerous tenants vulnerable to the exploitation and changes in last -minute rules.
In one of these incidents, a 23 -year -old man shared his frustrating experience of renting an apartment in Bangalore, only to face unexpected restrictions from its owner. Although he received prior approval for visitors – including his girlfriend – the situation turned when the owner suddenly opposed, triggering an animated confrontation.
By taking to Reddit, the man told how he had moved to Bangalore in January for a four -month stay. During his hunting at home, he and his parents had explicitly clearly clearly the broker and the owner that visitors, including friends, should be authorized. “We have specifically mentioned that I will not play music, drink or smoke-the only condition was that visitors should be allowed,” he wrote. The owner accepted and he made the full payment of four months.
However, after only two weekends of her girlfriend visiting during the day, the owner, who lived next to it, suddenly sent him a message on WhatsApp, declaring that “girls are not allowed”. When he reminded her of their previous agreement, she denied having never authorized.
His frustration intensified when he contacted the broker, who not only rejected his concerns but also began to do the moral police. The conversation quickly became hostile, the broker saying: “If you want to meet girls, go out. It is not a lodge. Despite the tenant who insisted that the broker and the owner had assured him earlier, the broker denied him openly, calling him “dirty activities”.
Angry by hypocrisy, the tenant expressed his frustration in his post, calling the owner and the broker for their non-professionalism. The message has resonated with a lot online, users sharing similar experiences.
“The conservatives behave as if they had fallen from the sky like angels of morality. They do not care about domestic violence or the security of women, but if two consenting adults meet, all hell stands out, “said a user.
Another shared a contrasting experience, declaring: “I had an owner in Bengaluru who was a retired officer of the IAS – completely cooled by visitors. But my current owner is a bite from generation Y which is too curious and arrogant. »»
Others advised the tenant to be more prudent in the future. “Take everything in writing in your rental agreement. Record all your calls with owners or agents – it will be useful if you need to take legal action, ”suggested a user.
