A British man was killed in an incident of flight offense involving a vehicle in the procession of President Kenyan William Ruto.
The man, who was appointed Edgar Charles Frederick, 79, died Thursday after being struck in the accident on a main road in the capital, Nairobi.
The police arrested a driver, who has since been released on bail.
They say that he was driving a support vehicle that was traveling as part of President Ruto’s official convoy.
Police spokesman Michael Madiri told the BBC that Mr. Frederick had visited Kenya to see his sister and his nephew who are residents of the country.
The closest to the victim were informed and a post-mortem should be led later on Friday.
The police said that the driver, who had not managed to stop after the incident, would appear before the court following an investigation.
A spokesperson for the High British Commissioner said the officials were aware of the reports and sought more information.
Videos published on social networks show a blue denim man and a light color shirt that bleeds on the road outside a lively commercial area.
Other photos show the victim covered with a checkered shawl, known locally as Maasai Shuka.
Mr. Mudiri told the BBC that the vehicle belonged to the regional administration and provided support for presidential details.
President Ruto organized events near the scene Thursday as part of the current political commitments with the public in the capital.
