Stephen King wrote dozens of books and hundreds of news, many of whom have been adapted to the screen with various degrees of success. That said, the author’s work is sustainable, and the studios and networks cannot have enough of his twisted imagination. This is why ABC came after writing an original script for a mini-series entitled “Storm of the Century”, an underestimated jewel from 1999 which deserves more recognition. The good news, however, is that it is available to broadcast on Hulu – and you really have to look at it.
If you were to judge “Storm of the Century” just by reading the summary, you would be forgiven to think that it is a prototypical story of the king; However, it has more punch than most. The six-hour mini-series takes place in Little Tall Island, a sleeping city in Maine which becomes engulfed in terrorism after a blizzard and the arrival of the mysterious Andre Linoge (Colm Feore). The visitor knows the darkest secrets of everyone and returns the city dwellers against each other, but it is a reasonable threat that agrees to leave everyone if they voluntarily give him a child. Will Little Tall residents succumb to his request? Or will they find a way to overcome their supernatural enemy?
“Storm of the Century” was not the massive notes that Smash ABC wanted it to be in 1999, but the mini-series was applauded in a critical way and resistantly resistant after all these years. In addition, he occupies a special place in Stephen King’s heart, and that goes very far.
Stephen King recommends the storm of the century
From the icy atmosphere to its terrifying villain, there are several reasons why Stephen King fans should discover “Storm of the Century”. It is a gem of horror which has all the characteristics of a story of a classical king, but it is undoubtedly a cut above most of the author’s television work, which is a feeling with which it agrees. In an interview in 2020 with The New York TimesThe author “IT” said “Storm of the Century” his favorite television project – which is a great praise given that there are several large King mini -misters. As king says:
“This is my absolute favorite of all […] I loved Colm Feore as Linoge, and I loved the story. They filmed it in Southwest Harbor in Maine in winter and they got the snow, so you have the meaning of this brilliant Blizzard and people trapped in it. They did a great job. “”
Although the mini-series has been largely neglected compared to many other King shows and films, this has always had an impact on pop culture. “Storm of the Century” even inspired “Midnight Mass” by Mike Flanagan, another acclaimed horror series on a supernatural presence wreaking havoc in a small town. If this underestimated mini-series is good enough for Flanagan and King, horror fans with a Hulu subscription are necessarily to take advantage of it.
