In mid-March, Meta said that her family of “open” AI models, Llama, reached 1 billion downloads, from 650 million downloads in early December 2024. On Tuesday, during her first Llamacon developer conference, Meta revealed that this figure reached 1.2 billion downloads.
“We have thousands of developers who contribute tens of thousands of derivative models downloaded from hundreds of thousands of times a month,” said Meta Chris Cox Products on stage during a speech.
Meanwhile, Meta Ai, the AI assistant from Meta propelled by the Llama models, reached about a billion users, added Cox.
Meta’s Llama ecosystem is developing in a rapid clip, but the technology giant faces competition from a certain number of formidable players in IA space. Alibaba published Qwen 3 on Monday, a very competitive family of models on a number of AI benchmarks.
