Rory McILroy overcome an erratic display of the TEE to embark on the plane of the players’ head, while Scottie Scheffler took a good start of defense of the title.
McILroy found only four fairways during a hectic opening tour at TPC Sawgrass, where he mixed seven birdies with two Bogeys to display a 67 under the age of five and stay in touch with the first leaders.
Former major champion Lucas Glover set the goal club goal with a 66 opening round, later paired by JJ SPAUN after a Bogey-free tour, with Camilo Villegas making three after having carded five birdies in a stretch of seven holes to also reach six sous.
McILroy shares fourth place with Billy Outcher, Min Woo Lee, Akshay Bhatia and Max McGreevy, who had two more holes to finish when the game was suspended at 7:34 p.m. local time (11:34 GMT) due to the darkness.
The English duo Aaron Rai and Laurie Canter are part of a two -rate Logjam after the 68 of the opening, while Scheffler – playing alongside McILroy and seeks to join Jack Nicklaus as the only winner of the players – started with a three under 69.
How McILroy “erratic” went to discord
McILroy did the start of the dream when he drove eight feet in the first and two 40 feet blows to enjoy the next per-five, only for Bogey the third third, miss a chance of 10 feet for the Birdie in the fourth and a hole of the same distance to save the sixth.
The 35 -year -old man failed to get up and descend from the seventh green and carded his second Bogey of the day, returning him to a penny, before projecting a charge in the ranking by making a sneak of eight -foot in the ninth by five.
McILroy converted eight feet in the 10th and recovered from the discovery of the next TEE trees in Birdie the 11th by five, the 2019 champion jumping less than two from the head when he added another Birdie to 12 feet in the 12th per four.
The 2019 champion continued to recover from the capricious starting to maintain his back without Bogey new and saved his best for the last par-four, where a super punch-end-with a five-iron iron-of the pine straw installed an eight-foot sneak.
“I was trying to be disciplined and strategic, I simply did not do very well well”, “McILroy said to Sky Sports. “I did not hit a lot of fairways. I was trying to cut him into play, I did not do it very well, but each time I missed a fairway, I was able to do something.
