“The people of Memphis are a big sporting city – big fans, great people – but there is an element there where cats like Jimmy Butler and others do not have the impression that it is the safest environment,” said Smith during the publishing Tuesday of “First Take” on ESPN.
“I speak to the local authorities of Memphis. You have to clean some of these things because it is dissuasive for the NBA players. They talked about it. I know. They told me. That’s all I say.”
The comment triggered the backlash of the star of Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant and Young.
“Talking more the Grizz than the finals [laughing emoji] Wit these [cap emoji] Ahh sources, “Morant posted on X.” Instead of focusing on the performance we have seen by JDUB / Shai, TJ / Siakam, how this series takes place. We say the negative SUMM on a city / team at the national level. “”

Young also weighed on X.
“Stephen called us a big sports city-facts,” he said. “The best fans in sport? Train. The people of Memphis?” Save. “
“But what is missing is that crime is considerably decreasing in 2024 and 2025. We are not only talking about change, we deliver it. Memphis increases and we have the figures and the heart to prove it.”
