One of the series’ greatest strengths is Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood, a Jedi-trained pirate scum who is as skilled with a blade and the Force as he is treacherous and forced to think only of himself. In the finale, we finally learn Jod’s story and how he was found as a young boy by a Jedi on the run after the Purge, but according to a new behind-the-scenes photo, it looks like we almost got a glimpse of Jod. Jod Na Nawood is one of the best characters “Star Wars” has introduced in years. He’s extremely fun to watch and gets along well with children, but he’s also a silver-tongued pirate who’s willing to betray and sell anyone who cares about him if it means getting their hands on cold, hard credits. Still, there’s something tragic about this guy – who’s not a pirate pretending to be a Jedi, but is actually quite strong in the Force – whose entire worldview is distorted by tragic death and cruel of his master. You see, Jod trained as a Jedi after the purge of Order 66. When he and his master were discovered by the Empire’s forces, they killed her in front of him.
An interesting thing about Jod is that he is never redeemed during “Skeleton Crew”. He does good things, sure, and his story is sad, but it never feels like an excuse or a way to erase his bad deeds. Yet his sad story could have been even sadder. Actress Yasmine Al Massri took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes footage from a scene she was supposed to appear in for “Skeleton Crew” where she played a Jedi — the first female Arab Jedi, in fact. While she doesn’t confirm whether or not she played the role of Jod’s master, the post contains combat training videos, so it would make sense that the deleted scene depicts the death of Jod’s master.

It’s unfortunate that the scene was removed, and given the terrible ratings for “Skeleton Crew,” it seems unlikely we’ll get more of this story. Yet there is always hope that the flashback to the death of Jod’s unnamed master will make it to the screen if Jod himself returns for further adventures.
