Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick is one of thousands of people in Los Angeles whose homes did not survive the wildfires that ravaged the area this week.
Redick was in Dallas for a game when he learned of the fires and that his family had been evacuated.
Speaking to the media on Friday, a day after a Lakers game at Crypto.com Arena was postponed, he talked about his experience returning to Palisades and what he saw.

“I’m fine. My wife came out very early. She was actually on the other side and came out, saw the fire, was with people and was heading to the airport. … I picked up the kids from school. They are safe. All that mattered,” he said.

“I went to the hotel, woke up at 7, headed to Palisades. I had to see it for myself. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. It’s complete devastation and destruction I had to take a different route home but I walked through most of the village and it was all gone I don’t think you can ever prepare for anything. like that.

Redick’s home was destroyed Thursday.
“We were renting for the year to try to figure out where to live long term, and everything we owned that was important to us – almost 20 years of living together and 10 years of parenting – was in this house,” said one emotional person. » Redick said. “There are some things you can’t replace. They will never be replaced.
“The material is whatever. My family and I deal with the personal side, the individual side of losing your home. You never want to wish that on anyone. It’s a horrible feeling to lose your home. …I I’m not sure I’ve cried or screamed like that in many years.
