President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were sworn in Monday, marking the official start of their administration.
During his inauguration speech at the US Capitol, Trump presented his vision for his second administration, promising to “put America first.”

With Trump and Vance’s new positions, both enjoy six-figure annual salaries.

The president’s salary is $400,000 per year, according to US law. It is paid monthly.
On top of that, Trump will receive a “$50,000 expense allowance to help cover expenses related to or resulting from the performance of his official duties,” according to the law.
The president “shall also be entitled to the use of furniture and other effects belonging to the United States and kept in the executive residence of the White House” during his mandate, specifies the American code.
There’s also money for travel and entertainment, amounting to $100,000 and $19,000, respectively, according to CBS News.
During his last administration, Trump gave money he received as presidential compensation to numerous government agencies.
In the meantime, Vance can currently expect $235,100 to be paid to him each year as president, according to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF).
A document released by the Office of Personnel Management notes that a measure of the American Relief Act 2025 “continues the freezing of pay rates payable for the Vice President and certain senior political officials through March 14, 2025.” The extension of this measure will be decided by “future action by Congress,” he indicates.
The vice president’s official salary in January was $289,400, but he will not receive all of that amount due to the freeze.

Trump’s cabinet picks are also set to receive compensation in excess of $200,000 if confirmed, according to information from the Office of Personnel Management.
Trump and Vance’s inauguration came two weeks after the House and Senate opened the 119th Congress earlier in the month.

Leaders of the U.S. legislative branch, including the Speaker of the House, Speaker pro tempore, majority leaders, and minority leaders, also receive significant compensation.
The Speaker of the House, who oversees the House, earns $223,500 each year, according to the NTUF.
The annual salary for majority and minority leaders in the House and Senate is $193,400, according to a Congressional Research Service report. The same goes for the salary of the president pro tempore of the Senate.
Congressional compensation has not changed since early 2009.
