A French woman, Anne, was scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars after believing she was having a relationship with a Hollywood actor. Brad Pitt.
The scam began with messages from accounts pretending to be Pitt and his mother, using AI-generated images of the actor to establish trust.

A French woman was scammed out of hundreds of thousands of pounds after believing she was dating Brad Pitt.
The 53-year-old victim, identified as Anne, was duped into sending him €830,000 ($850,000), supposedly to support the actor’s cancer treatment.
According to the Daily MailAnne, an interior designer, shared on French channel TF1 that the scam began when she received a message on social media from someone claiming to be Pitt’s mother.
This followed photos of an extravagant ski holiday in Tignes being posted on Instagram. The next day, another account, posing as the “Fight Club” actor, contacted her, claiming that her mother had praised her.

Anne was then struggling with personal issues relating to her marriage to a millionaire, and by February 2023, she had developed a close bond with the impersonator.
The scammer sent her heartfelt poems and messages of support, strengthening her emotional attachment.
“There are so few men who write you this kind of thing. I liked the man I was talking to. He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well done,” Anne admitted in an interview has BFMTV.

Anne admitted that she initially suspected the account might be fake, but after daily conversations and receiving AI-generated photos and videos of Pitt, her doubts gradually faded.
What started as a seemingly innocent friendship quickly escalated when the impersonator proposed marriage and promised Anne luxurious gifts.
But there was a catch: she had to pay customs fees to receive these gifts, which quickly added up to €9,000.
Seeing Anne’s willingness to send money, the scammer continued to make increasingly outrageous demands.
When Anne confided that she was expecting a hefty divorce settlement from her husband, the fraudster seized the opportunity.

Posing as Pitt, they claimed to urgently need funds for kidney cancer treatment, alleging they could not access their own money due to a divorce battle with actress Angelina Jolie.
To make the story more convincing, the scammer sent AI-generated images of Pitt appearing weak and bedridden in a hospital.
Despite their constant exchange of text messages and photos, Anne noted that the impersonator was never available for a phone or video call.

The Frenchwoman’s daughter tried to warn her against the scam
Anne ultimately lost nearly a million euros due to this complex scam. Despite her daughter’s repeated warnings, she remained convinced of their relationship, insisting: “You’ll see when he’s there in person, and then you’ll say sorry.”
His belief only began to waver in the summer of 2024, when photos of the real Pitt with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, surfaced in the media.
Sensing her growing doubts, the scammers quickly sent Anne a fake alert denying Pitt’s relationship with Ramon, claiming he was secretly involved with a mysterious “very special someone.”
The deception deepened further when a man posing as an FBI agent contacted Anne and offered to save her from the scam for €5,000. Desperate for a solution, she sent the money.
Woman hospitalized with severe depression following Brad Pitt scam
Financially exhausted, Anne was forced to sell all her furniture and move in with a friend. In a last-ditch attempt to manage her worsening situation, she launched an online fundraiser to cover mounting legal costs.
According to TF1, Anne attempted suicide three times before being admitted to a specialized clinic for severe depression.
Once Anne fully understood the scale of the scam, she reported it to the authorities, triggering an official investigation.
However, almost two years later, it is still unclear whether she has recovered any of her lost funds. BFMTV reports that Anne is still hospitalized, struggling with the devastating consequences of this ordeal.

Public reaction to his story was mixed; some expressed sympathy, while others felt it was her fault that she had been defrauded.
