Shiffrin returned to action last month when she ranked 10th in a slalom in Courchevel, in France, and still plans to run the slalom – her best event – in Worlds on Saturday. While abandoning the giant slalom, Shiffrin decided to participate in the combined event of the new team in Worlds on Tuesday and will join the gold medalist of the freshly crowned Breezy Johnson descent.
The combined event involves a runner in competition in a descent track and another in a slalom race, with their twice added to determine the final results.
The other American teams of the event are the Super-G bronze medalist Lauren Macuga and Paula Moltzan; Lindsey vonn and AJ injured; and Jacqueline Wiles and Katie Hensien.
Vonn had campaigned to run with Shiffrin in a “dream team” with the two most successful World Cup skiers of all time. But the American coach staff selected the pairs according to the results of the ranking of the descent on Saturday and the slalom.
“Breezy and I have run together since the age of 11. We were in Whistler Cup and Topolino,” said Shiffrin, referring to two prestigious junior events. “We were roommates, competitors, friends … It will be so cool to bring this complete loop.”
Johnson recently returned from a 14 -month ban for three violations “where is” in the anti -doping protocol.
