The Newcastle United striker, Alexander Isak, has moved away from his future again, reaffirming his love for the city of his current employers.
The 25-year-old was one of the Newcastle heroes when they ended a 70-year expectation for a domestic trophy on Sunday, rightly defeating the leaders of the Premier League Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final in Wembley.
Isak scored his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions – 19 of his strikes came in the Premier League – to put the match beyond the litter of Liverpool, giving the Caoimhin Kelleher goalkeeper no chance with a superb finish which entered the lower corner.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona have been implacably linked to Isak, which will almost certainly exceed the 25 goals he scored last season, while they are looking to sign a superior quality center capable of becoming the focal point of their team for the coming years.
Liverpool would have engaged in talks with Isak representatives on a potential decision, while Arsenal would be identified the Swedish as their “priority” objective.
Isak played on the transfer of a transfer in the preparation to the triumph of the Carabao cup in Newcastle, but these responses clearly did not satisfy assembled journalists preparing to welcome the international friend of Sweden with Luxembourg scheduled for Saturday.
Indeed, Isak again answered questions about his future where he, without surprise, doubled his love for Newcastle while reaffirming that his objective remains on what is happening on the field rather than on the point.
“There is not much to say, really. I commented my situation and my security several times in Newcastle,” said Isak. “It was written how much I like the city and the club, how much I feel there. I don’t think about the future. I just want to play for Newcastle.
“Now we have won the Cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League matches. This is where my goal resides.
“There is no reason why I think of something else (apart from Newcastle). I am incredibly appreciated in Newcastle. The only objective I have is to play.”
Only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Isak, which has established itself as one of the best ends in world football after its first season in St James’ Park – who followed a transfer of 63 million pounds Sterling in the summer of 2022 – was derailed by injuries.
