Some bicycle locking manufacturers provide their own internal safety ratings to get advice. These can be useful, but the most secure locks that we have tested use standard notes from objective sources, including Sold securewhich offers notes of several types of vehicles between bronze and diamonds, and ARTwhich uses a digital scale of 1 to 5.
So what do these notes really mean? Here is a guide of two of the best companies in Lock-Security and their rating systems:
Sold secure was created in 1992 by the Northumbria and Essex police in the United Kingdom. The brand is now owned and operated by the Master Locksmiths Association, a non -profit commercial group. He uses a four-level rating system, as shown below.
Sold secure rating levels: Bronze (lower, secure against basic tools); Money (mid -range, safe against improved tools / determined attacks); However (second best, dedicated tools / attacks); Diamond (higher, resistant to destructive attacks and “special tools”).
The company also uses distinct dimensions for different types of vehicles, such as bikes in relation to motorcycles (which it now calls pedal cycles and powered cycles, respectively). For example, the Hiplok DX has a secure sold Pedal cycle diamond note and a sale sold Fueled cycle gold Notation. It is a good score, but it is not as secure as the superior options resistant to grinders such as Litelok X1 or more difficult locks such as Litelock X3 and Hiplock D1000, which all three diamond ratings in the two categories. Broan resistant locks will generally tell it directly on the brand’s site. If in doubt, you can always go to Secure sold website To check if your locking is assessed.
ART is an independent Dutch independent security company which uses a five -star security system focused on the type of vehicle, sustainability, weather, environmental resistance and attack resistance.
Artistic notation levels: 1/5 (Minimum safety note, suitable for a second bicycle lock only); 2/5 (Higher safety note which represents good protection against theft for bicycles, the minimum for most insurance companies); 3/5 (Bicycle safety for a high risk of flight, also adapted to mopeds and scooters for insurance purposes); 4/5 (Note with very high security for bikes, good flight protection for travel motorcycles); 5/5 (Highest note, sometimes necessary to ensure motorcycles stored at home).
