A winner of the Palestinian Oscars was attacked by Israeli settlers, activists who witnessed the event, before being detained by the Israeli army.
Hamdan Ballal, one of the four co -directors of any other land, had his house in the West Bank occupied by Israeli surrounded by settlers during an attack on Monday, said Center for Jewish Nonviolence Group (CJNV).
The co-director Yuval Abraham said that Mr. Ballal had been beaten by settlers and then taken by soldiers in an ambulance. Israeli defense forces (FDI) said that no Palestinian had been detained by an ambulance.
Without appointing Mr. Ballal, the FDI said that three Palestinians and an Israeli had been detained in suspicion of “Roche launch” to the security forces.
An activist who was on the scene told the BBC that the three detained Palestinians, including Mr. Ballal, had been injured in the settlers’ attack and are now in an Israeli police station in the West Bank.
They are suspected of having thrown stones and injuring a young shepherd of the settlers and are questioned, said the activist, adding that they had had access to a lawyer.
The attack began around 6:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. GMT) on Monday, while about a dozen masked settlers launched an attack in the village of Susya, said five American Jewish activists from CJNV.
The five said they had gone to the village to document the incident and had themselves been attacked, with settlers breaking their car windows, and striking them with sticks.
Mr. Ballal’s house would have been surrounded by the settlers.
Yuval Abraham, the Israeli director who won the Oscar this month alongside Mr. Ballal, said that people had been injured and that properties destroyed during the attack.
The activist who spoke to the BBC said they complained to Israeli soldiers that they were attacked.
They said that the army had initially looked at the attack, then approached only the assault on the car.
The soldiers then refused to continue the colonists, leaving them free to attack the houses on the other side of the hill, said the activist.
The FDI confirmed that the soldiers and the police had arrived to disperse the confrontation.
They said that rocks had been “launched” to the security forces.
“In response, the forces apprehended three Palestinians suspected of launching their rocks, as well as an Israeli civilian involved in the violent confrontation,” said the FDI.
“The detainees were taken for another interrogation by the police of Israel. An Israeli citizen was injured during the incident and was evacuated to receive medical treatment.”

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. The Israeli colonies in the territory are considered illegal under international law, although Israel disputes it.
They have developed in the past 55 years, becoming a focal point for violence and contradictory claims on earth.
Since the start of the War of Israel-Hamas in 2023, the violence of the colonists against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank has increased.
