The heads of the American and Russian espionage agencies spoke by telephone and agreed to maintain regular contacts to reduce temperature in American-Russia relations, reports said on Wednesday.
During the first contact of this type in more than two years, the director of the CIA John Ratcliffe and the head of the SVR, the Russian foreign intelligence agency, spoke on Tuesday by telephone, said the Russian news agency Tass.

Ratcliffe and Sergei Jolyshkin “agreed with regular contacts” between their agencies “in order to contribute to international stability and security, as well as a reduction in the confrontation of relations between Moscow and Washington,” Tass reported.
The call was also the first contact of this type since President Trump began his second term by ending at the end of the three years War of Ukraine.
It took place on the same day as Ukraine supported an American proposal For a 30-day ceasefire and accepted immediate negotiations with Russia in Saudi Arabia.
The latest contacts reported between the CIA and SVR chiefs occurred in November 2022, when Jarkakin spoke with CIA chief William Burns in Ankara, Turkey.
