A boat capsized in southwest Congo and killed 25 people, including a lot of football, the authorities announced on Monday.
The players returned from a match in Mushie City in the province of May-Nombe on Sunday evening when the ship capsized on the KWA river, said Alexis Mputtu, the provincial spokesman.
MPUTU suggested that poor visibility at night could have been a factor.
Accidents of deadly boats are common in the Central African country, where the end of the evening trips and overcrowded ships are often blamed. Authorities found it difficult to apply maritime regulations.
Congo rivers are a major means of transport for more than 100 million people, especially in remote areas where infrastructure is mediocre or non -existent.
Hundreds have been killed in boats accidents in recent years while more and more people have abandoned the few roads available for wooden ships filled with passengers and their goods.
