Hey, America: Give the Statue of liberty Back to France. The demand comes from a French politician who makes the headlines in his country to suggest that the United States is no longer worthy of Lady Liberty. The monument was a gift from France almost 140 years ago, by the Associated Press.

What is tea with Lady Liberty?
Raphaël Glucksmann is a member of the European Parliament and co -president of a small left party in France. He did not claim to speak for all his compatriots. However, he delivered a speech last weekend that shakes the table and aroused relationships with social media. Glucksmann shared that some Americans “have chosen to go on the side of the tyrants”. His comments arise in the middle of the European chatter that the changes of President Donald Trump in foreign and interior policy trigger.
“Give us the statue of freedom,” said Glucksmann, speaking on Sundays of his public place party on Sunday, who applauded and whistled. “It was our gift for you. But apparently you despise it. So she will be happy here with us. ”

Can France really snatch the statue of freedom?
The short answer? Dream on. UNESCO, the United Nations cultural arm, notes that the emblematic monument is the property of the American government. The organization has the statue on its list of world heritage treasures. It was initially considered as a monumental gesture of Franco-American friendship to mark the 100th anniversary of the declaration of independence of July 4, 1776.
Then, a war led by Prussia between France and the German states in 1870 moved the energy of the designer of the monument, a French sculptor named Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi. Thus, the financing of Lady Liberty has been late. In the end, the French agreed to pay the statue and the Americans would cover the costs of its pedestal. After being transported in 350 pieces of France, the statue was officially unveiled on October 28, 1886.
The French politician is alone … for now
France, the country, does not call the statue of freedom to go home. French relations should deposit a cliff before Glucksmann found the support of the government of French President Emmanuel Macron. In addition, he suggested that Trump’s administration was likely to hand over victory to Russia when she interrupted military aid to Ukraine.

But Glucksmann’s party was even more critical. He posted accusations on his website that Trump exercises power in a “authoritarian” manner and “prepares to deliver Ukraine on a silver set” to Russia.
In his speech last weekend, Glucksmann referred to the words of the poet of New York Emma Lazarus on the statue. She previously wrote, the “powerful woman with a torch” who promised a house for the “huddles masses aspiring to breathe for free”.
“Today, this land ceases to be what it was,” said Glucksmann.
