Podcast host Josh Holmes weighs after President Donald Trump came to social networks to explain his plan to implement the prices and discuss Elon Musk’s remarks at the office of the cabinet.
Several of President Donald Trump’s prices came into force on Tuesday, including the last levy on imports from China.
Imports from China, a large producer of smartphones, their parts and other technologies, were affected by another tariff of 10%. This was built on a 10% levy the president already imposed in the country in early February.

In addition to the new import price from China, the administration has also implemented import prices from Canada and Mexico, ending the break of these samples.
This decision has raised questions about how consumption prices of new smartphones could be affected in the short term and longer term by prices, in particular the levy placed on imports from China.

About 78% of imports from American smartphones come from China, said Consumer Technology Association.
The founder of RKS Design, Ravi Sawhney, said that business consumers in Fox “would probably not see a significant price increase” for smartphones “in the immediate term” of prices, explaining that “most smartphones manufacturers plan the inventory and price strategies in advance, so existing actions already on the market will not be affected”.
He added that companies “often absorb short -term cost increases rather than transmit them immediately to consumers to stay competitive”.
Crowell Global Avisors Global Avisors Global Sciences of Life, Joseph Damond, has offered a similar perspective on short -term smartphones prices, saying that consumers may not be immediately confronted with a hike “because there will be a gap before the increase in tariff costs having a direct impact on the production and sale of new phones, and because they see in the short term, until they see. “If the sellers thought that the prices were only temporary and were used as a negotiation tactic, they cannot increase their prices immediately,” Fox Business Scott Baier, president of the Economy Department John E. Walker, of Clemson. “However, if the prices are considered permanent, companies may want to increase their prices. If consumer demand is not too sensitive to price variations, a large part of the rate will be transmitted to the consumer.”
Meanwhile, economist Michael Szanto suggested that prices could lead to “moderate effect on the price of smartphones in the near future”.
“The last series of Trump prices in its first mandate, widely exempt from apple iPhones that are widely assembled in China, but Wall Street is concerned this time,” he said.

The prices of “probably” smartphones could increase in the medium term, according to Damond, but producers “can take measures to move production to countries not affected by prices in order to mitigate cost increases in the longer term.
“If these prices remain in place, we could see progressive price increases in the coming months,” also predicted Sawhney in the longer term. “Manufacturers will absorb higher production costs, move supply chains or adopt costs directly to consumers.”
He said that consumers of companies in Fox could potentially see “flagship devices” become more expensive or “reduced promotions and trade incentives”, as well as companies that seek “more aggressive strategies” to stimulate production in countries like Vietnam or India.
Baier also indicated that companies could continue to move smartphones manufacturing sites from China as part of their longer -term response at the country’s rate.
“Even if some of the rare earth materials, semiconductors, batteries and other components are produced in China as long as there is enough added value through other components and assembly in other countries,” he predicted. “When goods are shipped from another country in the United States, it may not be subject to prices even if it has components produced in China. Customs and the protection of the United States assess if a property has been transformed enough to avoid the price.”
The prices could potentially lead to a trade war, according to Szanto.
“The other thing to watch is growing tensions with a potentially hostile communist China is the growing military threat of Taiwan,” he also said, noting that many of the “most advanced” processors for smartphones come from there.
Globally, there were 1.24 billion shipping of smartphones by manufacturers during 2024, according to a report by the International Data Corporation.
