Luke Humphries crossed a real battle with Beau Greaves to fill a difficult victory of 10-7 and move to the last 32 to the UK Open in Minehead.
Greaves had already created the story during its beginnings open in the United Kingdom by winning its first three games on the day of the opening against Stefan Bellmont, Rhys Griffin and Mickey Mansell to go to the fourth round, and was looking even more when she faced the 2024 world champion.
World player No. 1 feminine took a sensational start with boxes of 126 and 124 helping him to take an advance of 3-2 during the first break, before Humphries retaliated to bring the competition to all squares to 5-5.
Greaves then managed to move 7-5 in front with a break-up, but the pivotal moment came in the 15th stage when Humphries found his own break to advance 8-7 and take for the first time.
From there, a higher score of “Cool Hand” helped him above the line, Humphries bringing Greaves on stage for a well-deserved appreciation of the Crowd of Butlin.
“I really enjoyed the game. It was very fun and beautiful played incredible,” said Humphries ITV Sport.
“She is a fantastic player and she really had to bring out the best of me. The ladies’ game has developed considerably and it is because of it.
“If it had been a premier League match, she would have beat me. She is probably a top-64 player in the world, but you don’t want to exert too much pressure on her.”
Greaves herself admitted that her game was abandoned in the last legs of legs, but her beginnings at the UK Open will only be a positive experience for her career.
“I was off to a good start and I knew that at the end of the match, I dropped off. This is what I work in my game,” she said.
“What an experience. Playing someone like Luke will only contribute to my game. I enjoyed watching him throw.
“It’s a learning curve, I’m happy and I had a good match.”
Humphries will now face a close friend Ryan Searle in the fifth round.
Luke Littler has retained Peter Wright’s performance to finish a 10-9 victory in a decisive leg to switch to the last 32 where he will face Jermaine Wattimena.
Wright, the 2017 Open United Kingdom champion, won three rotating legs with consecutive 14-Darters to move 3-2 in front, then found another spell with three tonnes of finish in a row, followed by a break at 12 pits to take the match all along.
However, the 18 -year -old world champion was firmly against the launch and filed heights of 170, which took him out for the first dart to progress.
Michael Van Gerwen held a late fight by Dirk van Duijvenbode to reserve its place in the fifth round against Robert Owen.
On average more than 107 during the first session, Van Duijvenbode managed to put himself right in front with an advantage of 3-2 but constantly let Van Gerwen get rid of his doubling, which saw the world n ° 3 take six legs in a row to move 7-3.
Despite the return to 8-7, Van Duijvenbode left too much and Van Gerwen managed to grind the 10-8 victory.
Jonny Clayton was in imperative form while he demolishes Gary Anderson on the main Minehead stage to install a confrontation with Alan Soutar.
Clayton ran in an advance of 4-1, a break to launch more a silky box 121 giving “The Ferret” the advantage of a quick meeting.
From there, the Welshman entered an 8-2 advantage, finishing the match at the top for a possible 10-3 victory.
Elsewhere, Gerwyn Price was shocked by Connor Scutt In a last -way decision maker, Chris Dobey Beat Stephen Bunting and defending champion Dimitri van den Bergh left with a 10-6 victory against the double British champion Raymond Van Barneveld.
Other results have seen Wattimena Fight Ritchie Edhouse, Danny Noppert run in front of Daryl Gurney, Michael Smith avenge his defeat of the world championship against Kevin Doets and Dave Chisnall Come through a last leg decision maker against Ricky Evans.
