Shakur Stevenson believes that a fight between the unquestionable light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivo and the compulsory WBA David Benavidez is now one of the “biggest fights” that can be made of boxing.
When Bivol (24-1, 12 KB) preceded Artur Beterbiev last Saturday evening with a majority decision of 12 laps in Riyadh, he inherited his Benavidez compulsory WBC (30-0, 24 KB), which is many problems because of his production of punch, power, chin, chin, youth and casualness.
“Benavidez vs Bivol is up there with the best fights that can be made in boxing sport,” said Shakur Stevenson to Ring Magazine About a fight he feels is one of the best right now.
Bivo’s options
It is not a surprise that the promoters of Bivol at Match concentrate on other fights for him, and it is possible that if the World Boxing Council is trying to force his hand, the belt will be drifting. In this way, Bivol can continue easier fights that will pay well.
Turki Alashikh will decide who is confronted with who Bivol will then face, but the promoter Eddie Hearn has a lot of influence on him because of their friendship. If Hearn chooses to blow up Benavidez to Bivo forever, he can do it by sacrificing the WBC belt or ignoring it.
WBC allowed popular fighters to keep their belt years without ordering them to defend the strap. Bivol is popular enough to bypass your compulsory WBC and fight that it pleases, whether Betbiev, Canelo Alvarez or Callum Smith. These are the three tall people that Hearn recently mentioned as fighters he is interested in bivo battles afterwards.
What makes it even less likely that Benavidez will have the opportunity to fight bivo is his past success that faced it. He revealed in an interview that he had lit it with a burst of 20 strokes and that he almost went down. Benavidez says he was then informed after the round that he would no longer be allowed to work again.
