Alstom has obtained a seven -year contract extension with the Port Authority in New York and New Jersey to continue working and maintaining Airtrain at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The agreement, worth around 518 million dollars, includes an option to extend three additional years to 2035.
The contract guarantees that AirTrain, which serves as a vital link between airport terminals, parking and public transport in New York, remains operational 24 hours a day.
The Director General of JFK International Airport, Teresa Rizzuto, said: “The port authority is apt to continue working with Alstom on JFK Airtrain, a critical element of JFK’s infrastructure, and which also promotes sustainability, the creation of local jobs and community development.”
Alstom will manage the maintenance of the infrastructure and the AirTrain fleet, which includes 32 automated light metro trains.
These trains range from one to four cars, according to the requests of passengers and provide connectivity in nine stations.
Alstom Americas’ president Michael Keroulle said: “Since 2003, our cutting -edge airport system has been safely and reliably transported millions of travelers and employees between terminals.
“As JFK’s partner of choice, Alstom is delighted to support the modernization and expansion of the AirTrain service in one of the most popular airports in the world.”
Last year, nearly 25 million passengers used the JFK AirTrain, with a daily level of traffic on average 68,000.
The system had an availability rate of 98.56% in 2024.
It supports more than 230 jobs, including 59 customer service roles.
