WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed today that the 175 LB temporary champion David Benavidez is the new light belt holder of heavy goods vehicles after Dmitry Bivol abandoned his title with the organization of WBC.
A handbag offer commanded by WBC was planned for tomorrow for Bivo’s compulsory fight with Benavidez, but Dmitry has chosen to give up his belt so that he could participate in a trilogy match with Artur Beterbiev.
The new king
Benavidez would have preferred to win the title of WBC of 175 LB The Traditional Way by contesting Bivol for that, but that can do if it did not want to fight it. He did not just go the lazy, letting go to put him on the ice while he fights Beterbiev again. There would be no guarantee that the winner of the Bivo-Beterbiev 3 fight would have fought it. They could have chosen to go for a fourth fight or to leave, placing Benavidez where he is now.
Bivo (24-1, 12 ko) would have preferred to keep her WBC belt, but WBC forced her hand by ordering him to face “the Mexican monster” Benavidez. It would not have been difficult for Bivol to keep his trilogy match with Artur, 40, but the Saudis wanted this one afterwards.
Why bivo
In addition, Dmitry defending his WBC belt against Benavidez would not have been a safe victory. If it was a piece of cake, Bivol would probably have received the green light to face Benavidez, then fight the trilogy with Betbiev (21-1, 20 kos) after.
There was too much chance that Bivol will lose and fought quite badly by Benavidez, which would drain the little interest that the boxing public still has to see the trilogy.
Given the rumors of 55K PPV, purchases on Dazn of American fans in the second fight of Beterbiev against Bivol 2 on February 22, he would have been reckless for Dmitry to defend his WBC title against David Benavidez. He would have lost the fight, then a trilogy with Beterbiev was not worth the dirt.
They could put it on PPV, and they would be lucky to bring 20,000 purchases to the United States. Fans are tired of this boring fight anyway, but they would really be fed up if Benavidez sent Bivol to the next galaxy.
Following
We will see who he is confronted now that Benavidez is the new heavyweight champion of the Light WBC. These are some of the options:
– Callum Smith
– David Morrell: * revenge
– Anthony Warde
– Wily Hutchinson
– Lyndon Arthur
– Edgar Berlanga: * If he chooses to go up
I have just received a cold and impersonal notification of Dmitry Bivo’s lawyer, Patrick English, with arguments that are so ridiculous that I prefer not to discuss the WBC information that Dmitry Bivol has decided to give up his WBC Light Heavyweight championship. We want bivo …
