The Goruck GR1 (7/10, Wired Review) is the pack that launched the business, and always the best and most versatile in the Goruck range. The GR1 is available in 2 sizes: 21L and 26L, I have both, but if I had to choose one, it would be the 21l. It is the perfect size for rucking, everyday transport and weekend trips if you pack the light. I even lived out of the 21L bag (with a shoulder bag for my camera equipment) for a week trip. It was a pressure, but it worked. The 21l GR1 is deceptively large and always seems to swallow more equipment than I think.
My favorite thing about GR1 is its versatility. I used this pack for plane trips (such as hand luggage), rucking, hiking, transportation of camera equipment, etc. I even tied it to the rear rack of my bike for a night bike trip. The only warning I have is that if you use it for rucking (or hike, or how you want to call it), you will sweat and perspiration will permeate in the peloton. Finally, he will become stinking. This is easy to repair by washing with soap and water, then hanging it to dry in the air (never put the bag in a washer or a dryer), but it takes a while. Make sure you plan in advance if you have broken a lot and you don’t want to watch the airport.
GR1 consists of three compartments. Against your back, there is a rigid and rigid laptop compartment (or ruck plate holder when you rucke). At the front outside the pack, there is an inclined zipper pocket for frequently accessible items. It becomes tight if you have really thrilled the interior, but it is useful for the wallet and the passport and similar. The interior is a large compartment accessible by a U -shaped zipper so that the “lid” folds completely and you can load it like a suitcase.
Internally, there are three lines of soft light load load strap (light modular equipment) at the top to add pockets and organizers, as well as 3 internal pockets: a large elastic pocket on the back, and a zipper pocket and a solid small pocket on the cover. The exterior of the rear is made up of very heavy cordura 1000D. The rear panel and the suspenders are 210d cordura. The lighter rear fabric is easier on less robust (but great) fabrics like merino wool. There are 3 rows of mole strap on the forehead and the outer sides. This allows you to attach additional compartments and organizers if you wish (I keep a Vanquest water bottle holderwhich adapts to an Nalgene, on the side of mine. See below for more organizers and accessories). You can also use this soft side to fix a padded hip belt. The upper handle is not only solid, but comfortable enough to transport the GR1 for common sense. In addition, you can remove the plastic frame sheet at the back of the pack if you want the back to be less rigid, but I have never felt the need to do it.
If you have more than 6 feet high, or if you just need more space in your bag, the Version 26l is also an excellent pack and has a very nice additional slide pocket at the top of the bag where you can store your wallet, keys and other small items.
