Gary Neville says that Manchester United needs five new signatures to suit the Ruben Amorim system.
United is 13th in the Premier League after shooting 0-0 at home against Manchester City on Sunday, having won only two of their last eight championship games.
Amorim remained with his privileged training 3-4-3 with a variable success after having signed the left back Patrick Dorgu in an agreement of 30 million pounds of Lecce during the winter transfer window-but Sky Sports’ Neville thinks they need many more additions.
“From a united perspective, I understand why he returned to a low block,” said Neville. “But that’s what we saw of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik Ten Hag.
“They all entered the intention of playing football with high pressure and high energy, but all end up returning to a low block in big games.
“I understand why Ruben Amorim did this today, with the players he has, because he did not have the players adapted.
“They need five new players right away before they even think of the rest.
“The three at the front are not good enough and both wings, they are not good enough. They need five players. They have to serve it with five players who are good enough in this system to be able to play its system as it wishes.”
Neville was disappointed by the “Love-in” between the full-time players of the Manchester derby who “tells you that the two teams are satisfied with a 0-0”.
During his post-match press conference, Amorim replied: “I understand that Gary Neville is essential about everything. I understand that we have the worst season of history. Manchester City has won everything in the past, but this season, they are struggling. So we are not in the best moments to give the best show to the fans. We are not fighting for great things, it’s different.
“I understand the critical aspect of the players who played in this game in a different way because they were fighting each time for the titles. It is a different context.”
“Elaga, Rashford, Welbeck are better than current attackers”
Speaking before the 0-0 draw with Man City, Neville compared the current attackers of United with those who left.
“No director of Manchester United from Sir Alex Ferguson, other than Louis Van Gaal, was able to dominate the games with possession. This is a real problem.
“Players in advance are simply not the quality required at the club. It seems really hard but it is the truth.
“It will require intelligent recruitment, it means that making players out for good prices and bringing players who are undervalued – that’s what all teams are trying to do in the league!
“You could align four players who are no longer in Manchester United – Anthony Elaga, Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck and Scott Mctuminay behind them – they would do much better than current players as four in advance.
“United let the players leave – and I’m not saying they are the solution right now. But they have replaced players who were not at the level, with players who are not at this level.”
