For many people, the character of Lieutenant Columbo, the ruffled detective described with a perfect mixture of seriousness and depreciation by Peter Falk, is as comforting as a fictitious character can be. It is the real ideal for justice, frequently removing the rich and the powerful by the power to be a boring little guy who pays particular attention. Indeed, each episode of “Columbo” offers at least a kind of comfort for the public. The show lasted decades, from 1968 to 2003 (although there were gaps), Columbo becoming a crucial part of pop culture along the way, referenced in everything, “Simpsons” to “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.

However, a particularly memorable “columbo” reference was created by Falk himself when he gave a truly hilarious performance as a titular character outside the real show. In 1978, the actor appeared in the character under the name of Columbo on “The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast”, which was inspired by the infamous roasted roasted of the New York club. The episode “Man of the Hour” was none other than the member of the colleague of Martin’s rat, the movie star and legendary Crooner Frank Sinatra. This “roast” is absolutely incredible, although it is much less mean than most roasts. There are a few small shots here and there about the retreat and the singing voice of Sinatra, but everything is clear with love and the real laughs come from Columbo just Columbo. He mixes and is more concerned with obtaining Sinatra’s autograph for his wife than entertaining the public, who is about as in the character that Falk could get it. He even reveals, not canonically, reveals the name of his mysterious woman: pink. (He also confirms that his first name is Frank, not Phillip, as a writer of Trivia, has already claimed!)

The roast was filmed only a few months after the broadcast of the last episode of “Columbo”. The show would finally remain outside for more than a decade before returning for season 8 in 1989, which made it a great way to say goodbye to his beloved character (at least for a while). Said roast was not a small matter either, with an incredible range of roasted riding players which included Orson Welles, Gene Kelly, Jimmy Stewart, Telly Savalas, Ernest Borgnine and Ronald Reagan with Falk, Martin and Sinatra. Even with such large names, however, it is funny to see how excited everyone is for Falk as Columbo, with Welles having a squarely struck star (which is wild enough given the importance of Welles for the history of Hollywood).
