US Energy Secretary Chris Wright discusses President Donald Trump’s reciprocal pricing strategy on “Varney & Co.”
Solar energy continues to grow as there are more and more installations. A new report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) says that the American solar energy industry installed 50 Gigawatts of current direct capacity in 2024, an increase of 21% compared to 2023.
According to the report, 66% of the new electricity generation capacity came from solar energy.
Texas, the best state producer of oil and gas, led the nation in the installation of solar capacity for the second consecutive year, California and Florida completing the first three.

The SEIA is expecting continuous growth in the solar energy industry, now that the impacts of the COVIVE supply chain have disappeared, and the money provided for alternative energy in the law on inflation reduction is distributed. According to the association, “solar energy remains the technology of generation of choice in the United States, as illustrated by the high level of demand in 2024. While 2023 was a year of recovery, 2024 was the year of materialization of solar installations. Political uncertainty partially compensates for high demand.
The SEIA has also said that residential solar installations have started to recover. Citing “significant disorders” in 2023 due to “many installation and financial bankruptcies”, residential solar installations increased by 9% in 2024.
One of the concerns cited by the SEIA is the first executive decrees of President Donald Trump. The report indicates: “During the first weeks of the new administration, President Trump published a series of decrees on industries, including the energy sector. Several aim to promote fossil fuels and reduce climate change initiatives.”
Fossil fuels generate less than half of American electricity for the first month, says a group for thinking about energy

These decrees included an energy emergency declaration, a federal freezing of land use, a federal financing freezing and new prices.
However, the SEIA remains optimistic about solar energy. In a statement, the president and chief executive officer of the SEIA, Abigail Ross Hopper, said: “Solar and storage can be built more quickly and more affordable than any other technology, ensuring that the United States has the power necessary to compete in the world economy and meet the growing demand for electricity.”

It added: “The solar industry and the storage of America established historical deployment and manufacturing registers in 2024, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. It is essential that legislators continue to support an energy strategy” all above “which promotes the growth of American energy sources such as solar energy and storage”.
