Trump ousts national security adviser Mike Waltz

President Donald Trump withdrew Mike Waltz from his post as national security advisor and will appoint him as the United Nations ambassador.

In an article on social networks, Trump thanked Waltz for his work and said that he would be temporarily replaced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will continue as the first American diplomat.

Waltz had been criticized to add a journalist to a discussion group in mistake where sensitive military plans were discussed – political embarrassment likely to appear during confirmation hearings for the United Nations post.

The former member of the Florida Congress is the first main member of the administration to leave the White House in the second term of Trump.

“In his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as a national security advisor, Mike Waltz worked hard to put the interests of our nation,” wrote Trump in an article on Truth Social.

“I know he will do the same in his new role.”

Waltz has published a brief declaration on X, alongside a screenshot of the announcement by the president.

“I am deeply honored to continue my service to President Trump and our great nation,” he wrote.

According to the American partner of the BBC, CBS News, Trump decided to appoint Waltz as an UN ambassador a few hours before the announcement on Thursday.

Several sources have told the network that it had been ousted due to the situation of the signal and a perception of the White House that he had not correctly verified the staff of the National Security Council, among other reasons.

But the sources said Trump respects Waltz, so he received a soft landing and a new high -level position.

However, the BBC spoke to several American officials – who wanted to remain anonymous – and they suggested that the Trump administration thought that Waltz could have trouble being confirmed by the Senate, allowing the president to completely get rid of him without having to fire him.

Waltz was examined since he recognized in March in March, wrongly adding the editor -in -chief of Atlantic magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a group group with the best US security officials.

The zoomed image has shown that Waltz checking his phone and a conversation in progress with a contact recorded under the name of JD Vance, American vice-president.

The message of the contact vance read in part: “I have confirmation of my counterpart, it is disabled. It will be here.”

In an interview with Fox News broadcast Thursday evening, Vance rejected any suggestion that Waltz was dismissed, saying he was being promoted.

“I like Mike,” said Vance. “I think he’s a great guy. He has the confidence of me and the president.

“But we also thought he would make a better UN ambassador when we go beyond this stage.”

The announcement of Trump, on the other hand, of the last role of Rubio seemed to take the officials of the State Department.

Rubio will now be the first civil servant to serve both secretary of state and national security advisor from Henry Kissinger half a century ago.

Rubio is also at the head of the American agency for international development and national archives.

Some reports suggest that Steve Witkoff, a real estate promoter and personal friend of Trump who is currently an American special envoy in the Middle East, could finally replace Waltz.

Another name presented as a potential candidate by some to Washington is also one of Trump’s special envoys, Ric Grenell, who has a longer diplomatic assessment.

Trump underwent four national security advisers during his first mandate. The first, Michael Flynn, served for only three weeks.

Another, John Bolton, later wrote an unflattering book on Trump.

Bolton told the BBC on Thursday that Waltz’s withdrawal recalled the “chaos” of Trump’s first mandate.
