The Environmental Protection Agency targets climate technology which automatically deactivates the engine of a car when stopped at red lights to save fuel, a Lee Zeldin features agency administrator said that each driver “hates”.
“Start / stop technology: where your car dies at each red light so that companies get a climate participation trophy,” said Zeldin on X. “EPA approved it, and everyone hates it, so we install it.”
Functionality has become common in new vehicles such as saving money on gas and reducing emissions.

Technology defenders support him as an respectful climate initiative, while criticisms find boring and wonder if he can exhaust the battery or the car engine faster.
Cars generally have a button allowing conductors to deactivate functionality.

The technology was included in 65% of vehicles in 2023, a leap of 45% in 2021, 9% in 2016 and 1% in 2012, according to the Battery Council International.
Functionality can improve fuel saving between 4% and 5%, have shown previous EPA estimates. He also eliminated nearly 10 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year from 2023, said the BCI.

An EPA spokesperson told the New York Post that stopping starting systems had not shown clear discounts of emission tests.
