Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz admitted his interest to test himself in a new environment before a summer transfer Window that could cause a blockbuster moving away from the club.
Wirtz, 22, approaches the last two years of his contract and is targeted by the rich trio of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid, which were all linked to an agreement which could be worth nearly 150 million euros (127.2 million pounds sterling).
Among the three interested clubs, it has recently been said that Wirtz promotes a summer visit to Bayern in the midst of the reports he has already concluded an agreement on personal terms with the new Champions of Bundesliga.
While Leverkusen officials have not yet abandoned the hope of keeping Wirtz, they seem to fight a lost battle and the German international has now left the door open to a distance in the near future.
“I am very lucky to have so many excellent clubs just at my door and to be able to play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe,” he said Sports Illustrated Germany. “I have great respect for guys here in Leverkusen, who come from South America or Africa, for example, and to leave their families and an environment for their careers.
“I am really impatient to leave my comfort zone at a given moment and to live something new. I know the football locker room quite well and I am convinced that I would quickly find a place anywhere.”
Wirtz has also laughed suggestions that his next club has already been decided.
“I continue to see articles on me on social networks,” he continued. “From time to time, I have to laugh when people write on the place where I play supposedly next season. Nobody except me can know it. This is why I am not careful with such news and I treat them in a fairly cold way.”
Leverkusen could see a number of influential figures leaving this summer. Alongside Wirtz, there is an important uncertainty surrounding the future of Manager Xabi Alonso, who should join Real Madrid and who wishes to bring Wirtz to Spain with him.
Madrid was also linked to the central defender Jonathan Tah, who has many admirers while he is preparing to leave the club on a free transfer.
