Air strikes come one day after the Houthis lined up by Iran fired a missile that struck near the main airport in Israel.
The Israeli army says it has made air strikes on the port of Hodeidah in Yemen and a cement plant, saying that the sites had been used to support Houthi operations against Israel.
The strikes on Monday injured at least 21 people, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Health with Houthi, Anees, Al-Asbahi.
According to the Israeli army, fighter planes have struck infrastructure related to Houthis, including a cement plant east of Hodeidah which it described as “an important economic resource” used in the construction of tunnels and military infrastructure.
“The Hodeidah’s sea port serves as a center for the transfer of Iranian weapons and equipment for military needs,” the Israeli army said in a statement. The complaint could not be checked independently.
Al Masirah TV, managed by the Houthi, reported that six Israeli strikes hit the port of Hodeidah and blamed Israel and the United States.
Axios journalist Barak Ravid cited a senior American official who said the air raids had been coordinated between Israel and the United States.
An American source of defense told Al Jazeera that “American forces had not participated in Israeli strikes in Yemen today” but did not denote non -letal support may have been provided.
The attack was carried out after a ballistic missile from Yemen on Sunday struck near Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised reprisals for the attack on the Houthis, the first missile known to avoid interception since the Yemeni group began to target Israel in November 2023.
“ New phase ” in Israeli attacks against Yemen
Al Jazeera’s correspondent Ali Hachem reported that around 30 Israeli war aircraft participated in Monday’s operation, which was supervised by Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz of a Tel Aviv command center.
Hashem said strikes mark a “new phase” in Israeli attacks against Yemen.
Since US President Donald Trump returned to power in January, the United States has embarked on a more aggressive assault on Yemen “which is directly linked to Israeli interests,” added Hachem.
This is not the first time that Israel has bombed targets in Yemen. In December, the air raids struck the oil terminal in Ras Isa and other sites in the province of Hodeidah, killing at least nine people.
While most of the projectiles launched by the Houthis were intercepted, the Sunday attack was the “most important strike,” said Hashem, since the group launched its campaign in November 2023, which declared in response to the War of Israel against Gaza and to be solidarity with the Palestinians. A drone had already struck a building in Tel Aviv last year.
Since November 2023, the Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, have launched more than 100 drone and missile attacks targeting ships which, according to them, are linked to Israel in the Red Sea.
Although the Houthis stopped attacks during a cease-fire in Gaza this year, they resumed their operations in March after Israel cut humanitarian aid in Gaza and resumed its offensive.
