The central defender of Tottenham Hotspur, Micky Van de Ven, said that his team would “fear” Manchester United in the Europa League final this month.
The Spurs have reserved their place in the master event of the competition by beating the Bodo / Glimt 5-1 of Norway on the aggregates, while United of Ruben Amorim released the athletics club. It is the sixth final in English in any European competition, and the third, interesting, featuring the Spurs.
The two teams are desperate to lift the Bilbao trophy to hide their miserable interior campaigns which only worse on weekends. They combined for 36 Premier League defeats, with United United currently 16th and the Spurs 17th.
The two managers have long prioritized the European trips of their respective clubs, with a postoglou angel holding his strongest XI for Thursday evenings since his team progressed in the KO phase. Van de Ven played a crucial role in the progression of the Spurs to the final, starting in all their direct elimination matches except one after having recovered from an injury to the hamstrings in March.
The rapid central rear now houses the hope of helping the spurs in their first piece of silverware since 2008, and it is well aware that it is an opportunity to do or rupture for its team.
“Everyone goes to Bilbao to win a trophy. It was a difficult season and it will only be if we win the Europa League and get the trophy,” said the Dutch, via Aim.
While Manchester United has claimed 13 major trophies since the triumph of the Spurs League Cup 17 years ago, the Postcoglou team should be embraced by its impressive recent record against the Red Devils. United has lost the three head competitions this season.
“”[United] Played Athletic Club, a very good team, and it was 7-1 during the two games. They therefore also showed real quality in Europe, “added Van de Ven.
“We know that it will be a different game, everything can happen in the final. But we are not going with fear, of course. We know our qualities, we know that it will be a difficult game, Man United has shown their quality in this European campaign.”
