PARIS (Reuters) – Mitsubishi Motors said on Monday that he had decided not to contribute to an investment in the activity of Renault electric vehicles, in a change in the company’s electric vehicle strategy.
Mitsubishi had previously announced an investment of up to 200 million euros ($ 225.08 million) in Ampère.
He said, however, that he would continue to develop new cars based on Renault models.
“The company remains determined to explore the potential ways for continuous collaboration, including potential OEM vehicles provided by Renault and Ampère,” Mitsubishi said in a statement.
The Japanese Nissan has also withdrawn its investment in Ampère in recent months to save money and finance a major restructuring plan.
Ampère generates enough money to support its development “without needing funding for minority shareholders,” said a company spokesperson.
Renault Brand EV sales jumped in the first quarter, helped by the launch of new models.
