The Philadelphia flyers hire Rick Tocchet to be their next trainer-head, reports NHL.com. Tocchet will succeed the acting coach Brad Shaw who replaced John Tortorella at the end of March.
Tocchet left his role with the Vancouver Canucks, after having gone 108-65-27 in his three seasons to the west.
The news of the return of Tocchet to Philadelphia encountered mixed reactions to fans. While some fans believe that the hiring of Rick Tocchet could trigger a turnaround, others do not seem too convinced.
Here is an overview of what these fans had to say:
“Tortorella was just pulling another tortorella,” said a fan.
“Please spare Pelletier,” sounded this fan.
“Buddy has never exceeded the second round with a team from God. Imagine with the flyers,” weighed another fan.
Meanwhile, other fans took the opportunity to express their enthusiasm on the return from Rick Tocchet.

The Philadelphia flyers welcome Rick Tocchet to the organization
The Philadelphia Flyers are delighted with Tocchet to the organization after returning its job manager.
Flyer’s GM, Daniel Briere, said by NHL.com:
“I am very happy to welcome Rick Tocchet as a chief coach. During this process, it has become clear that Rick was the right absolute coach to lead our team. He knew the highest level of success as a player and coach.”
Tocchet spent a lot of time in the Flyers organization as a player, because he was the choice of sixth round of the club in 1983. He played for the team from 1984 to 1992. He then went to training, after leaving the Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks.
Last season, Tocchet won the Jack Adams Prize.
As such, Briere praised the sense of training of Rick Tocchet, declaring:
“Rick’s ability to teach and understand his players, combined with his passion for victory, highlights the best of young players at different stages of their development and has won the respect and confidence of very talented stars and veteran players.”
The flyers hope that under the supervision of Tocchet, the flyers will take the next step back in the eliminatory hunt of the Eastern Conference. While this year was disappointing for the flyers, the team has the right pieces in place to make a strong race in the years to come.
