President Donald Trump confirmed Thursday evening that he named Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, as an acting prosecutor for the Columbia district, after having shot his controversial appointment of Ed Martin to occupy this role permanently,
“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position and is considered one of the best district prosecutors in New York State history, Trump Say on social truth. “She is in a class alone. Congratulations Jeanine!”
NBC News Reported Trump earlier was considering Pirro strongly for the position.
Pirro is the former District Prosecutor of Westchester County, New York. She is also a fervent supporter of Trump, who has forgiven her ex-husband, Al Pirro, for his conviction for tax evasion in the last hours of Trump’s first visit to the White House.
Trump earlier Thursday, said that he abandoned the appointment of Martin, who had criticized his advocacy of the defendants of the Capitol of January 6, was confronted with the high probability that the Senate does not confirm it.
Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said on Tuesday that he would not support MartinThe appointment, dealing with what seemed to be an end to his chance to win confirmation.
Tillis cited Martin’s support for the defendants of Capitol Riot.
“He is a great person and he did not get support,” Trump told the White House when he said that he was abandoning Martin’s appointment.
“I must be straight. I was disappointed,” said the president.
“Many people have been disappointed, but that’s how it works. Sometimes it works. And it was not rejected, but we thought it would be very difficult.”
Trump also said: “We have someone else who will announce over the next two days that will be great.”
