Edgar Berlanga has only the blame for him to be stuck on a subcardet against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz this Saturday, March 15 at the Royal Caribe Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
The “Comport” clause
The promoter of Matchroom Eddie Hearn says that Berlanga (22-1, 17 KB) wanted a “return fight” that “It was not an event in phase” In case he lost to Canelo Alvarez last September, which he lost in a unilateral competition.
It would have made things much easier for Hearn and Dazn if Berlanga had been willing to take a difficult opponent in his next fight. If he had told Hearn that he wanted the best competitor he could find, get Caleb plant would have been perfect for Dazn. Other options that would probably have worked well for Berlanga against:
– Osleys iglesias
– David Morrell
– Christian Mbilli
– Diego Pacheco
The problem with these guys is that Berlanga would probably lose quite badly on everyone, but at least he would not have the reproach of not being in the main event as now. The headliners should ideally be matches 50 to 50. Taking an opponent at the GIM level is not a headliner material. It’s poison for networks.
It would have been unhappy to be out of the title, but it could have been taken care of if Berlanga had been willing to be part of one of the above killers.
Plant-Berlanga would attract subscribers and would be ideal for the streaming network. But for Edgar to want a non-laadliner fighter, what did he expect what Dazn and Hearn do?
“When he fought Canelo Alvarez, he wanted a return fight, and The return fight was not even as a titlet, “said promoter Eddie Hearn to media About that Edgar Berlanga asked his contract before his fight with Canelo Alvarez last year on September 14, wanting an easy match if he lost against the Mexican star. “‘If I am beaten, I want a chance for a quick victory and then fight.'”
Easy combat trap
You cannot expect them to set off in the main event. The Berlanga Curriculum Vitae is strewn with easy opponents, none of whom was the headliner. Canelo is the only good. The other 21 guys are scrubs. You must give Hearn a lot of credit for having been able to align a title shot for Berlanga against Canelo, since his curriculum vitae is swollen with tomato cans from top to bottom.
Hearn says he tried to conclude an agreement with Dazn and Berlanga to be on the front page of the newspapers in Puerto Rico. The opponent would have been a 39 -year -old companion Gabe Rosado (26-17-1, 15 KB). Hearn says he lacked time trying to conclude an agreement. He therefore opted for the provision of the initial contract so that Berlanga is on the sub-card.
Hearn says that this is the final Berlanga fight for his contract with MatchRoom, and he wants him to extend his contract so that he can have him correspond to Plant or Jermall Charlo then. We don’t know if he will.
Berlanga against Gonzalez-Ortiz will be the co-functionality of Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams against Patrice Volny Card this Saturday, March 15.
