Basic Points
Let’s just start with how many points a team member would earn your team by taking the field.
Well, less than 60 minutes is worth 1 point, while more than an hour is worth 2 points. Easy, right?
Defensive points
As they say, a winning team is built on a solid foundation in defense, and goaltenders and defenders can bring in a lot of points throughout the campaign.
If a shooter or defender keeps a clean sheet, this will result in 4 points, while midfielders also get 1 point for a clean sheet. Additionally, for three shots saved by a goalkeeper it would be worth 1 more point, and if he saved a penalty it would be 5 points.
Attack points
Essentially, goals and assists should play an important role in your thinking when selecting your team and making transfers.
For each goal scored by your attacker, you will collect 4 points. If your midfielder scores, 5 points, and if a defender scores a rare goal, 6 points. If somehow your goalkeeper scores, it will be worth 10 points.
Assists are simple 3 points, regardless of which member of your team gets one. Players will also be rewarded with an assist if they win a free kick or penalty which is subsequently scored.

Losing points in FPL
You can also lose points in FPL on the field – and for many things too. The most costly deduction is for a red card, which will result in a loss of 3 points from your score, while a yellow card will result in a 1 point deduction.
If one of your players scores an own goal or misses a penalty, this will result in a -2 on your record, and for two goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender, prepare for a -1.
Bonus points
If all these points weren’t enough, the FPL also implemented a bonus points system, which rewards the three most outstanding players in each Premier League match.
The player with the highest score will receive 3 points, 2 for second and 1 for third.

Bonus points are a key feature of FPL, but which players are best at collecting them?
Reference points
Unfortunately, if you benched a player who scored a hat-trick and all 11 members of your starting lineup featured in some capacity, there’s no way to get those points on the pitch – unless unless you’ve used the Bench Boost chip, of course.
However, if one or more players in your starting XI are injured and did not play, the substitute(s) you selected will come into play and score you points.
Assistant Manager Chip
The new Assistant Manager chip allows FPL bosses to use Premier League managers to earn them more points. The chip can be activated once from February 1 and will become your “assistant” manager, scoring points in three successive matches. However, they will come at a cost, with assistant managers costing between £0.5 million and £1.5 million.
But how do Arteta, Guardiola and Slot score points? Well, they will earn 6 points for a win, 3 points for a draw, 2 points for a clean sheet and 1 point for each goal scored by that team.
An attractive bonus is also offered. If your chosen manager beats a team ranked five places higher in the Premier League table, you’ll get a 10-point bonus, rewarding those who support coaches outside of the European places.
