Stégard was urgently transported to a Montego Bay hospital, where she suffered from a “hematoma the size of the grapefruit” and required emergency surgery. Stégard told GMA that she suffered from falciform anemia, a blood disorder affecting a person’s hemoglobin, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Stégard returned home in Tennessee on March 24 to eight days after the incident – and required additional treatment of a neighboring hospital.
