The doctor is absent – at Paramount+ anyway. Deadline reports that the revival series of the long-running sitcom “Frasier” has been canceled after two seasons. This isn’t necessarily the end of the series, as production company CBS Studios is currently researching it on other potential platforms.
Reports of the cancellation do not include any specific reason, and because the “Frasier” revival was exclusive to one streaming platform, no reliable data is available on viewership for season 2. The first season also premiered on CBS to 2.2 million viewers in October 2023, and Paramount+ reported that it was the “#1 original comedy debut” in terms of reach (stretching the definition of “original” somewhat) . There have been no press releases on viewership for Season 2, however, and this latest news indicates that the numbers were nothing to brag about.
The original 264-episode run of “Frasier,” as well as all 20 episodes of the revival series, will remain on Paramount+ for the time being. The original series is also available on Hulu and Prime Video, and Deadline speculates that those streamers will be potential targets as CBS Studios markets “Frasier.”
