On Thursday, January 9, Judge Richard Bloom upheld Megan Thee Stallion’s restraining order against Tory Lanez. The Houston rapper’s order request describes Lanez as a “violent and dangerous person” with behavior that highlights the need for a civil harassment order to protect his safety and well-being, according to Variety.
Reporter Meghann Cuniff shared details of the order and Megan’s words live during a video call in the Los Angeles courtroom on X (formerly Twitter). Cuniff explained that the Houston rapper seemed emotional during the call and expressed fear of what could happen once Lanez is released.
“The court finds that the facts in this case demonstrate both unlawful violence, a threat of violence…and deliberate conduct that seriously harasses the applicant and serves no legitimate purpose.” I’m signing the order right now,” Judge Bloom said,” Cuniff shared via X.
Additionally, Cuniff revealed that Tory would not be eligible for parole until September 2029, as he is serving a 10-year sentence. The ban order will remain in effect until January 9, 2030.

Tory Lanez’s lawyer objects to Megan’s protective order as she highlights its necessity
Before the judge granted Megan the restraining order, Tory Lanez’s lawyer, Michael Hayden, objected. Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon also shared on X that Hayden had challenged the restraining order. Hayden noted that it would be unfair and Lanez has no plans to reach out to Megan.
However, Nancy Dillon also reported that Megan told the court that she rarely left her house because she constantly felt nervous and frustrated by people shouting “Free Tory” at her.
Tory’s lawyer, Michael Hayden, argued that the banning order would be an unfair “prior restraint” on free speech.
He said Tory “has no desire to ever communicate with the petitioner again.”
Megan’s lawyer, Mari Henderson, said Megan deserved to be protected after being the victim of a violent crime.

Additionally, Dillon reported that during the January 9 video call, Megan repeatedly emphasized that the protection order was necessary because she had not felt at peace since the shooting.
