All-rounder Washington Sundar shared his heartfelt thoughts after India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 25-year-old took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to express his emotions and offer hope for the future.
“It’s not the result we were hoping for, but it’s been an unforgettable journey. We left everything on the field and are proud of the heart and resilience shown by the team. A big thank you to the fans for their incredible support, we felt it every step of the way. Next,” Sundar posted.
Sundar’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy journey
The young all-rounder earned his place in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after an impressive home series against New Zealand. He managed to take 16 wickets while scoring 89 runs despite India losing 3–0 at home.
In the series against Australia, Sundar managed to take 3 wickets and scored 114 runs in 3 Tests.
Sundar missed the day-night Test in Adelaide and the rain-affected match at The Gabba. However, he made his mark during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He scored a fighting 50 in the first innings, showing courage and determination with the bat. Although his off-spin yielded only one wicket in this match, his batting resilience earned him praise.

In the fourth Test in Sydney, Sundar’s batting efforts failed, scoring 14 and 12 in the two innings. The pitch offered little help to the spinners, and Sundar bowled only one in the entire match – the last over of the match.
The reverse of the Indian series
India’s defeat in the fifth and final Test at the SCG marked their first defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series since 2015. Gautam Gambhir’s side, who were hoping to secure a place in the World Test Championship final , suffered a heavy blow.
On the final day at the SCG, India resumed their innings at 141-6 but were bundled out for 157. Australia’s Scott Boland wreaked havoc with figures of 6-45. Chasing a modest target of 162, Australia lost early wickets but secured a six-wicket victory in 27 overs.
