Tottenham Hotspur heads for a decisive summer transfer window, with several important calls to make regarding the future of the team.
One of the greatest uncertainties surrounds the vice-captain Cristian Romero, whose long-term future of the club is now in question.
Tottenham to give Cristian Romero an ultimatum
As indicated by GivemesportThe Spurs have made the decision to sell Romero if it does not engage in a new contract before the opening of the transfer window.
The Argentinian central defender, whose current agreement takes place until 2027, has been on the Real Madrid radar for some time, the Spanish giants considering it as a key addition to their defensive configuration.
According to the report, the management of Tottenham should exert pressure on Romero to sign an extension or face the possibility of being sold. Madrid closely supervising the situation, the Spurs know that they could receive a considerable offer if they choose to let him go.
Although they wish to convince the player to stay and are ready to make him their best paid player, they will not wait forever.
Romero’s growing dissatisfaction would come from his desire to play regularly in the Champions League – something he could not achieve with the Spurs despite a defender winning the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
Currently seated 14th in the Premier League, Tottenham’s hopes to guarantee European football through the League have almost faded. Their only realistic path to the continental competition next season is to win the Europa League, a difficult challenge by considering their incoherent performance.
Since his arrival in Tottenham in 2021 of Atalanta – initially on loan before moving permanent – the tram has been a key defense figure. Before the 2023-20124 season, he was appointed Vice-Capitaine and Ange Postcoglou often highlighted his leadership qualities and his defensive solidity. However, a long injury to the hamstrings has hampered its impact this season.
Romero admits that Tottenham players are not happy
He was back in alignment during their 2-0 defeat against Fulham and after the match, he published an Instagram post, revealing that the players are not satisfied with the current situation.
Taking on his social media, Romero said:
“We are not satisfied with our current situation, but this group will always get up and assume responsibility for everything that is happening at the club.
“Let us all continue to stay together.
If Romero leaves, Tottenham will use the funds for its sale to strengthen their team. Its future remains uncertain, and the coming months will determine if it remains to help rebuild or request a new challenge elsewhere.
