The American postal service (USPS) said that it had stopped accepting the plots of continental China and Hong Kong until further notice.
The letters will not be affected by the suspension, said the company, which refused to offer a reason for the decision.
However, Tuesday, new rules have entered into force which closed a flaw that allowed small packages worth $ 800 (£ 641) or less to be sent to the United States without paying tax or of costs.
It was one of the measures announced by US President Donald Trump who imposed a 10% price on all goods imported into the United States of China.
The specialization of so -called minimis taxation has been faced with a meticulous examination in recent years when Chinese electronic commerce giants as Shein and Temu have used it to reach millions of American customers.
Changes to the tax exemption from President Joe Biden were already underway before Trump took office.
But in his commercial announcement this weekend, Trump extended the prices to all the goods of China imported into the United States, including fashion articles and toys.
In response, China said it would implement prices on certain American imports.
From February 10, liquefied coal and natural gas (LNG) will be faced with a 15%tax. Raw oil, agricultural machines and large motor cars will be subjected at a rate of 10%.
Nick Stowe, Managing Director of Monsoon & Accessorize, told the BBC Today program that he supported changes in the United States at the exemption from Minmis, saying that he had allowed the main Chinese retailers to “reduce” competitors on other markets.
“It has long been British retailers, European retailers and American retailers that Shein has exploited this escape, not paying customs duties and they have built a business on an industrial scale,” he said .
Trump is expected to speak to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in the coming days.
“Trump’s tariff changes are particularly clear if the goods were previously dispatched via electronic commerce directly from China to the United States,” said Deborah Elms, a sales expert.
Almost half of all the plots entering the United States under Minmis, exemptions were sent from China, according to a report in 2023 of the US Congress.
The authorities stressed that the large flow of plots entering the country by this exemption has made it more and more difficult to detect them for possible illegal goods.
The BBC contacted USPS to request more details on the decision.
